Talent is overrated – update

June 12th, 2024

One of the translations of the word ‘talent’ is:
A desire or inclination for something (from Old French).

This definition is very close to my heart and the line of thinking I have developed. Our desire to do something day-in, day-out is the biggest talent we have. It is our daily practice, showing up no matter what.

It’s so obvious, yet many people don’t realise how little talent contributes to success. In fact, to be talented is very unimportant to achieve something. Take a person with the ability to read fast. That’s a great gift. But if this person, for some reason, is not particularly ravenous about reading, his gift means nothing.
